LA week 25 – Creating an Animation in After Effects

It was some mess with the weeks at school, so this LA is a few weeks late. I worked through the example in the lesson and made this rise animation. I made it my own by editing the movement in my own way, and i changed the camera from two-node to one-node. I think that made it simpler for this little animation. My challenge was to make the movements as smooth as possible. I am not sure how well it went…

Here is my folder structure.

The second part of this assignment was to create my own example. My answer is the animation I created of the word «Fold». Here are the storyboard:

Sketches

Here are my first sketches. The ideas I like the most here is 1, 2 and 4. Here is what I like about them:

Idea 1: I like the idea of being able to select your gender and then view woman’s or man’s clothing. This may appeal to high school students as they can choose to only view the interesting part. It feels interactive since they can choose gender and then continue based on their choise.

Idea 2: I think this one could be cool, because it plays with the «journey» concept. The part on f.ex. pop art has a road sign thet says Pop Art, and the bus’ decor changes based on the style era.

Idea 4: I like the «randomness» of the zebra, and I think that may appeal to the audience. It is different and exciting, because what would the zebra look like if it did care about style?

Week 27: LA – Creating a Brief

This week I started on Screen based design 2. I have watched a Lynda course about the modern web design process. There is a lot to remember, but luckily I can go back and watch it again if I need to. It is interesting to dive a little deeper in web design, but it is also hard because there is so much to learn!

This week’s learning activity is:

«I want you to take on a client. I then need you to have a meeting with your client and create a very detailed brief. This brief should contain all the information that will be needed to achieve the client’s requirements.

Your brief should cover these sections:

What is the client’s service/product?
What are their requirements?
What is the website’s goal?
How are you going to achieve this goal?
Build the website architecture (so we can see what sections will be needed)
What is the design style that will be required?
What are your suggestions for marketing the site?

The brief should be good enough to hand over to any design/programming team and get a great result.»

My client is a local church/community in Bodø, that I am actually going to make a website for. I did a interview with the leader of the board. It ended up being much of a two-ways-discussion, because the client doesn’t always know excactly what he wants and why. I used the questions stated in the task as a guide for the brief.

What is the client’s service/product?

A: We are a small assembly in Bodø that sees and care about the individual. Our «product» is to arrange church service and other social happenings.

What are their requirements?

The site has to be mobile optimized. We also need a Google calendar or other calendar that people can subscribe to. We need a blog where we can write posts.

What is the website’s goal?

  1. To reach out to new people so that they want to visit our church
  2. To share information about events etc.

How are you going to achieve this goal?

  1. Write and share relevant articles once a week. We want to write some of it ourselves and share some of it from other christian websites. We want to share news from the region, write about projects and maybe greetings from the preachers.
  2. We need to have a well updated calendar. People need to trust the information that is on the website.

Build the website architecture (so we can see what sections will be needed)

What is the design style that will be required?

We have no style guide. Since we are targeting young adults, we want the site to be fresh and modern, with illustrations. The user interface should be simple. We don’t want parallax scrolling.

What are your suggestions for marketing the site?

We have a facebook page where we can share content. We also send out a newsletter once a month, and people could subscribe to that. We could make posters with ULR or QR-code and hang them up on the university. We could write articles and get f.ex. iTro.no (the NLM organization’s web site for young people) to re-publish some of our articles with a link back to our site.

Who are we targeting?

We are targeting young people/students/young adults that are going to move to Bodø and wants a christian church to go to when they get here. It is important that the site is SEO optimized, so that when people that do not know us google «christian assembly bodø», or something like that, they can easily find our site.

The other group is people in the community that wants information about events. It is men and women from age 20-30 years and some older.

LA week 24: Applying Basic Animation Principles

Create a character. This character can be a letter, a person, an animal or any type of illustration, use your imagination. This character will play the main role in your animation.

Take this character and draw it in five different exaggerated poses. In each of these poses the character has to express some kind of emotion (like love, anger, dislike, distaste, happiness and so on). Keep the animation principles in mind when you draw your character.

Please scan your drawings and upload it to your WordPress blog.

I decided to not use too much time on this task, and rather work with MA 07. So this is my result. It is a little snail called Bjarte. He is in love with the neighbour girl, and is terrified of her scary mother.
